The Newman Center, home of the Lehigh Catholic Campus Ministry, relocated to the Holy Ghost Parish in July.

The Holy Ghost Parish is located on Carlton Avenue, about four blocks from the west side of Lehigh's campus. The parish contains four buildings that are now accessible to the Lehigh community, specifically Newman Hall.

The move will be completed after the renovation of Newman Hall is completed, which is expected around the end of September, according to Father Wayne Killian, director of the Newman Center. Newman Hall will feature a recreation room, a study hall with computers and a basketball court.

Killian said he has extended the use of Newman Hall to many groups on campus and all Lehigh students, even offering the basketball court to the athletic department for practices.

Newman Hall will become the new home of the Newman Council. Council president Katey Burke, '10, said she is excited about the new space.

"Hopefully, it will give us the opportunity to promote our organization and our faith," she said.

The old Newman Center, located between Taylor Gym and Grace Hall on Taylor Street, will be used by religious groups on campus through the Chaplain's Office.

Lloyd Steffen, university chaplain, said specific plans are "still in the process" and will be determined later in the semester.

"Anyone is invited [to Newman Hall]," said Fr. Killian. "We don't convert people. We don't turn them into priests or nuns."

Burke said the move will enable greater interaction between Lehigh and the South Bethlehem community. She said many Holy Ghost parishioners seem enthusiastic about the addition of new young members.

"I have witnessed nothing but open arms from my fellow parishioners," said Scott Wojciechowski, '09, vice president of social activites of the Newman Council.

Masses will be held at the Holy Ghost Parish on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. and Sunday morning at 7:30, 10:15 and 12:10 p.m. Packer Church will continue to hold Sunday evening mass at 9:10 p.m.
