Between midnight and 4 a.m. Wednesday, an intruder entered a house on the 600 block of Laufer Street, stealing thousands of dollars worth of property, according to residents of the house.
The tenants did not realize anything happened until the next morning when they walked downstairs to the empty living room, said Andrew Katz, '09.
"We were all sleeping when it happened," Katz said.
The victims of the burglary estimate between $3,000 and $4,000 worth of goods, including a television, two computers and food from the freezer, were taken from the house.
Brandon Sherman, '10, admits he and his housemates were sometimes careless about securing their house.
"Nothing was destroyed; there was no forced entry," he said. "We were just emptied out."
Sherman said his house is looking into installing a security system, maybe with a keypad to enter the front door.
They will also be installing new locks and keeping their blinds down more, he added.
The tenants said the police were very helpful and even called in a crime scene investigator to take fingerprints.
"He said they would monitor pawn shops and Craigslist," Sherman said. "But he said chances are [the burglars] took the stuff to Philadelphia or Manhattan where a larger market exists and it's hard to track," he said.
To help with the recovery of the stolen equipment, police asked the tenants for the serial numbers of their equipment and appliances, Katz said.
"We're still trying to figure everything out," Katz said. "We are just in shock."

I assume the Bethlehem Police were the ones that responded to the call. Isn't it nice when police DO THEIR JOBS? When my on-campus room was completely emptied out after forced entry, the Lehigh Police literally said, "There's nothing we can do. (Continued…)
