This weekend, the storied Lehigh-Lafayette rivalry will resume for its 145th meeting. Yes, winning would be ideal. But if anything, we're rooting for a close game. Lehigh's football team has struggled throughout the season, but it should be able to hold its own against Lafayette.
Both teams lost very close matches to Patriot League champion the College of the Holy Cross - Lehigh lost 20-24; Lafayette, 28-26. The similarly close losses show Lehigh that we stand a chance against a team that seems to have outperformed us so far this year.
Having home field advantage also raises the odds for a close game, or a Lehigh victory. Our defense should keep us in the game - they've been consistent this whole year, and have made sure each game possesses a fair chance of winning.
Lehigh's strength seems to lie in its two running backs, Jay Campbell and Jaren Walker. Let's be aggressive and stay consistent in running the ball well. Doing that also frees up some throwing lanes. Plus, it would shift attention from our less-than-stellar record with field goal attempts.
Maintaining a competitive edge through all four quarters has been a struggle for Lehigh this year. Let's keep it together - we won it last year at the end.
Let's remember that Lehigh-Laf is about more than drinking, partying and bed racing. Students have shown their school spirit all week - let's keep it up Saturday and support our team!
